Consumer & Military Groups Urge Senate to Support Enforcement of Laws Protecting Military Families from Financial Predators
Washington, D.C. – On behalf of the Consumer Federation of America, the National Military Family Association, and other public interest groups, Senior Fellow Rohit Chopra called on the Senate Armed Services Committee to support the vigorous enforcement of laws combatting financial fraud specifically targeted at America’s service members, veterans, and their families.
Military families face unusual financial hardships compared to civilians. Financial issues are a top cause of involuntary separations for members of the military, which impedes the readiness of the force and drives up costs for taxpayers. Recent high-profile law enforcement actions against financial institutions underscore the critical role of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its dedicated military protection unit.
