CFA Joins Coalition Urging the FTC to Act on Algorithmic Pricing Petition, Start Rulemaking

The Consumer Federation of America joins a diverse coalition urging the Federal Trade Commission to open a rulemaking that mandates marketers to disclose the use of personalized algorithmic pricing. Additionally, the comments encourage the Commission to prioritize completing its 6(b) study to provide the policymakers and the public with a more complete understanding of the prevalence of personalized algorithmic pricing.

With the costs of essential goods and services—from grocery stores to transportation to housing—growing ever more unaffordable, personalized algorithmic pricing can exacerbate these problems for the hundreds of thousands of people charged with higher prices based on data collected about them.
