Consumer and Immigrant Rights Groups Urge CFPB to Prohibit CRAs from Selling Credit Header Information
CFA joined a coalition of consumer and immigrant rights organizations in urging the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to prohibit consumer reporting agencies (CRAs) from selling “credit header” information without a permissible purpose as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The letter followed a December 8, 2021 letter sent by Senator Ron Wyden regarding the sale of credit header information from the National Consumer Telecom & Utilities Exchange (NCTUE)/Equifax to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The letter outlined a non-rulemaking option to stop the sharing of credit header information, which is to remove the exclusion of credit header information from the definition of “consumer report” under the FCRA.
