Consumer Groups Tell Senators to Throw Out ‘Filthy Food Act’

CFA TC

CFA has joined other consumer advocates in a letter to Senate leaders opposing H.R. 5, the so-called Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017, which more aptly should be named the “Filthy Food Act.” The bill passed by the House would paralyze efforts to protect consumers from food safety threats by setting up an unprecedented regulatory gauntlet for agencies. Protections like the rule banning E.Coli 0157:H7 in hamburger meat following the Jack in the Box outbreaks would likely still be tied up in court had the Filthy Food Act been in place. This bill would jeopardize American right to safe food and put children, families, and businesses at risk.
